AN APPEAL THAT CAN PLAY A DECISIVE ROLE IN UKRAINE’S FATE

Five days ago, on two of our resources, we published “Appeal by representatives of Ukrainians Worldwide and Peoples all over the world who support Ukraine and Ukrainians in their war against Russian aggressor”. We hope that hundreds and thousands, tens and hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians in Ukraine and abroad, as well as friends of Ukraine among other nations will write their names under this Address.

Before publishing the Appeal, we sent the text to many potential signatories to test and edit the text. Thank you to everyone who responded and pledged to support the Appeal with their signatures. As we receive e-mails, we will check their authenticity and add them to the text of the Appeal.

We had discussions with some recipients. We listened to constructive advices and made respective changes to the text. We did not agree with some remarks or even demands (saying I will sign, if the part with the appeal to the President, the Verkhovna Rada and the Government of Ukraine is removed).

Some potential signatories behaved in a very strange way. One well-known person in the Ukrainian American community supported the Appeal with the thumb up symbol , and then wrote that she would gladly sign the Appeal, but she “does not have time to write her biography.” Funny, but very eloquent excuse, isn’t it?

The most annoying and even shocking for us was something else. Our invitation was ignored by Ukrainian diaspora activists, who recently shouted “Mr. President!” welcoming the incumbent President of Ukraine in Washington and given high state awards from Ukraine from him and, earlier, from his predecessor. I remembered how until recently these people played a flashmob in support of Ukraine, and when a real terrible war came to Ukraine, they behaved as if it did not concern them at all.

It hurts to write about it, but I have to: I have known many of them personally in Ukraine and abroad for decades.

I understand that everyone decides for himself which side of the front to take a position on, and it is not just a question of whether or not to take up arms, stay in a combat zone or evacuate to places far from war zone.

Even in countries far away from the war, it is important for each of us to take an active position and do everything to help Ukraine, not bury our heads in the sand. Therefore, we hope that the world Ukrainians will finally stir up and become more active, attracting sober-minded people of good will in different countries of the world, and above all — in Ukraine.

“This appeal should be on the first page. Thank you for your work!” — wrote one commentator with a link to our post on social networks, and it inspires us. Let this inspire everyone who reads this text.

Friends, please, add your captions to the Appeal, share it and invite your friends, acquaintances, colleagues to follow your example…
